North Salem Woman Helps Autistic Children With 'Sensory Toy Box' NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- Little did North Salem occupational therapist Christina Kozlowski know when she opened the present her husband had given her one recent Christmas that it would, literally, be the gift that kept on giving. The subscription box of goodies planted the seed of an idea in Kozlowski’s head that would eventually bloom as a business. The young mother, who works with children on the autism spectrum, had often heard from her clients' parents about how hard it was to find fun and functional toys that their kids enjoyed -- or actually got something out of. Many people on the spect…

Westchester Congresswoman Introduces Bill To Repeal Trump's 'Global Gag' WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey is fighting back for, she said, vulnerable women after President Donald J. Trump moved to reinstate the Global Gag Rule. The rule, aka the Mexico City Policy, forbids any overseas organization that receives U.S aid from mentioning abortion services, much less provide them, even if the procedure is legal in their county. President Ronald Reagan established the gag rule in 1984. It was tossed out by President Bill Clinton, put back on the books by President George W. Bush in 2001, and rescinded in 2009 by President Barack Obama. According to a…

With Upgraded Credit Rating, Future Looks Bright For Fishkill FISHKILL, N.Y. -- The future is looking brighter for Fishkill now that Moody's has upgraded its general obligation rating, town officials say. The designation, the town said this week, affects $6.8 million of “rated GO debt outstanding.” The upgrade to A3 reflects Fishkill’s ability to keep its financial nose clean. Specifically it has become more stable and has a “moderately sized” $2.5 billion tax base, “above-average” wealth lev…

PSC Water Rate Decision Fails To Protect Rockland Consumers, Day Says NEW CITY, N.Y. – Rockland chief Ed Day would like to sink the state’s recent decision on a rate hike for customers of Suez New York Water. The county executive said Tuesday that the state Public Service Commission didn’t go far enough to protect consumers. The state granted Suez a $4.87 million rate increase, $960,000 less than the water supplier had requested. But, Day contended, this is merely “a dent in the costs.” “It's certainly not a victory for the ratepayers of Rockland County,” he added. The approval means the average Rockland water customer will likely pay a total of $122 more o…
