Mary Kathleen Knox, Former South Salem Resident, Dies At 94 LEWISBORO, N.Y. – Mary Kathleen (McDermott) Knox, a former resident of South Salem, died on Wednesday, Dec. 28. She was 94. Knox, known as Kathie, lived in Tampa, Fla. A native of Gratiot, Wis., Knox was an avid golfer and had played in clubs throughout Westchester County and had received many awards and accolades. She was predeceased by her husband, Joe; daughter, Kathleen Knox Dowd; granddaughter, Heather Dowd; and four siblings.

Opera Star Roberta Peters, 86, Of Rye Dies Of Parkinson's Disease RYE, N.Y. – Roberta Peters, the coloratura soprano who was known to opera fans as “The American Nightingale,” died Wednesday, Jan. 18, in her home in Rye after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. She was 86. Peters was a 35-year veteran of the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York, said to be the longest such association between any singer and an opera company. DeFrancisci lived in Castro Valley community and took part in programs at the Kenneth Aiken Senior Center. DeFrancisci was born in the Bronx. She married her husband, John, in 1950. They raised their children in Yorktown Heights. The couple retired to California in 1993. John DeFrancisci died in 1996.
