Pine Plains Schools Chief, District Continue 'Forward Momentum"
PINE PLAINS, N.Y. – If superintendents could get report cards, Dr. Martin Handler, head of the Pine Plains school district, would get an “A+” in all his subjects.
In fact, the Board of Education is so pleased with the academic strides the district has made under Handler’s leadership, that it recently extended his contract by a year and gave him a salary and benefits bump.

Horticultural 'Crown Jewel' Set To Bloom In Somers' Lasdon Park
SOMERS, N.Y. – In just a few months, nature lovers will be able to visit a tropical rainforest, without having to travel to South America, Africa or Asia, said Ted Kozlowski, manager of the Lasdon Park and Arboretum in Somers.
Ten years – and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears – in the making, the park’s new Glass House Conservatory is set to open on Saturday, June 17.
Its first exhibit, titled “The Rainforest: Tropical Treasures,” will feature, not only exotic plants and flowers, but water features and the sounds of such jungle denizens as macaws, jaguars, and poison dart frogs.

Former Westchester resident, 1970s teenage heartthrob and Emmy Award-nominated actor David Cassidy is struggling with a devastating diagnosis of dementia, something that had afflicted both his grandfather and mother, Cassidy told People magazine.

Police Save Port Chester Woman's Life, Charge Husband In Stabbing
PORT CHESTER, N.Y. – Police were able to save the life of a Port Chester woman who, they said, had been stabbed in the neck by her husband.
Officers were called to a home on Fox Island Road around 11:40 p.m. Friday to investigate a report of a domestic altercation.
They found the 46-year-old victim, who was bleeding profusely, standing in a hall outside her apartment.
Police said she told them she had been stabbed by her husband, 51-year-old Humberto Chavez, who was still inside the couple's home.
