Taconic Parkway Among 'Most Dangerous, Deadly Places In NY,' Website Says
The Taconic State Parkway, the longest in New York, is also among its deadliest places, according to onlyinyourstate.com.
The website, in a post about the most dangerous spots in the Empire State, noted the 104-mile-long highway that runs through four counties -- Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess and Columbia -- has been the scene of 2,080 crashes since 2014.
Commuters (many en route to New York City) tend to put the pedal to the metal, especially in Westchester and Putnam counties, the website said.

Wappingers Can't Afford Pre-K Program, School Officials Say
WAPPINGERS, N.Y. – A prekindergarten program is off the table in Wappingers -- at least for now -- because, school officials claim, the district simply hasn’t got the money, according to a report by the Poughkeepsie Journal.
A full-day pre-K program could cost $2.5 million for 162 children, and a half-day version, for 324 children, close to $3 million, school officials told the Poughkeepsie Journal.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann gets a bigger paycheck than any other elected official in Rockland County and also makes more than the top-earner in Westchester, according to an analysis by Journal News/lohud.com.
The Journal News/lohud.com study compaired Hoehmann’s $170,309 annual salary to that of Mike Spano’s, who makes $156,100 as mayor of Yonkers, a city that, the media outlet pointed out, has a population more than twice the size of Clarkstown’s.

Timothy Edward Lange, Baker, Of Wappingers Falls, 48
Timothy Edward Lange, a Wappingers Falls resident, died on Friday, Jan. 6 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was 48.
Born Nov. 21, 1968 in North Tarrytown, he was the son of the late Egon Lange and Shirley E. Tompkins Hallock.
Lange was a baker for The Cake Bin in Beacon for 30-plus years.
He is survived by his mother; a daughter, Katherine Lange; a son, Timothy Lange; sisters Rojeana Bowden and Tabitha Touhey; brothers Kenneth Lange, John Lange and Fred Touhey; several nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.

Last Call: Eateries Invited To Participate In Hudson Valley Restaurant Week
Dozens of restaurants have already signed up to participate in the culinary marathon known as Hudson Valley Restaurant Week, but there is still room at the table, organizers said.
The last call to register for the spring event ends this Sunday, Jan. 15.
More than 70 eateries (so far) will be serving up dishes that emphasize New York’s “sustainable, seasonal” fruits, veggies, meats and grains, organizers said.
Now in its 11th year, the biannual event features prix fixe, three-course dinners and lunches.

Robert Friedberg, who joined Health Quest Systems, Inc., in 2014, first served as president of Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie and as Health Quest’s vice president before becoming its president.
