Set Your Clocks Back For Daylight Saving Time This Weekend, Armonk Tick, tock: It’s almost time to set our clocks back one hour. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6. “Spring ahead; fall back,” though a dusty old adage does help folks remember to turn their (analog) clocks back an hour at this time of year. On the bright side, we get an extra hour of sleep; on the not-so-bright side, we will be commuting home in the dark and, for folks with seasonal affective disorder, the shorter days could produce moodiness and an overpowering urge for mid-afternoon catnaps. Design Center Inspires Boces Architecture, Pre-Engineering Students RYE, N.Y. -- Students from Southern Westchester BOCES came home inspired after a recent field trip to the New York Design Center The center, on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan, has 100 showrooms representing more than 500 lines of fine, traditional, contemporary and other furniture. It also houses fabric, floor and wall coverings, lighting, kitchen and bath accessories and decorative items. The students, who are studying interior design, architecture and pre-engineering, toured the center in October. Dozens Volunteer On Poughkeepsie Agency's 'Make A Difference Day' POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- More than 100 volunteers recently took part in the annual “Make A Difference Day” event organized by United Way of Dutchess-Orange Region, the Poughkeepsie-based organization said. The intrepid volunteers worked on eight community projects, contributing a total of 730 hours and making an estimated economic impact of $19,607, United Way said. The benefits of helping out local nonprofit groups goes both ways. There’s a way to get those treats into the hands of military folks serving overseas. Children participating in after-school programs run by Camp Herrlich in Patterson have been gathering up items that the troops “miss most” as part of their fall community service project, the organization says. The opera, created by Susan Bingham, was based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. The production involves close to 100 musicians, singers, set designers and costume artists. Briarcliff's Clear View School Raises $70,000 At Gala BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- Briarcliff Manor’s Clear View now has enough money to replace its antiquated heating system thanks to its recent Feels Like Home gala. The 50-year-old school for children with emotional and mental disabilities was able to raise $70,000 at the Sunday event. One of the things the funds are likely to be used for is a new boiler, which some think may be original to the school’s 100-year-old building on Albany Post Road.
