State Eyes Significant Changes To Common Core Standards State Eyes Significant Changes To Common Core Standards
State Eyes Significant Changes To Common Core Standards New York is weighing significant revisions to more than half of its Common Core academic standards for English and math, state Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia announced Wednesday. Public comment is now being sought on the proposed changes through Nov. 4. They could affect everything from literacy skills in the lower grades to algebra and geometry lessons in high school. The tougher Common Core standards, which are the basis for tests given to third- through eighth-graders, drew a massive backlash from parents and teachers. About a quarter of all students refused to take the standardi…

Meet Brix, Hi Tor Animal Care Center's Pet Of The Week RAMAPO, N.Y. – Brix, a Labrador mix, is “Pet of the Week” at an animal shelter in Pomona. The 5-year-old male was surrendered to the Hi Tor Animal Care Center because of “landlord issues,” facility officials said. A little shy, Brix has been a house dog and is not comfortable with the kennel life. It takes him a bit to warm up, but once he does he is very sweet and lovable, they said. Brix has lived with children and probably would do best with older kids in a quiet home. He seems to get along with other dogs, but shelter officials said he has not been “tested” with cats yet. To meet Br…
