North Castle Postpones New Road Paving Projects
ARMONK, N.Y. -- North Castle, citing the need to finish repairing roads in the Windmill Farm neighborhood, has put off starting new paving projects until next year, according to a report by The Examiner. Highway Department foreman Jamie Norris told the Town Board at its Aug. 10 session that his crews need to wrap up Windmill Farm and other repaving projects before tackling new ones, The Examiner reported. Town Board members agreed that undertaking more paving projects at this point could affect brush and leaf collection in September and snow plowing this winter, The Examiner reported. Supe…

On Aug. 10, members got to be part of a crowd without having to control it. The whole gang used their regular August meeting to confab at a recent Rockland Boulders game, according to Sgt. State Law Ups Penalties For Impaired Boaters, Links Sentences To Prior DWIs
Drunk drivers are “a danger to themselves and a menace to others,” said Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday as he signed into law a measure that links such offenses no matter what kind of vehicle was involved -- whether it be a car, boat or snowmobile. "Tiffany Heitkamp’s Law" was named for a 20-year-old Syracuse woman killed in 2006 on an Adirondack lake while riding in a boat piloted by Keir Weimer of Manlius. The new law allows judges to consider prior driving while intoxicated, or ability impaired by drugs, convictions during sentencing in drunken boating cases, and vice-versa. They…

New State Law Spurred By Area Girl Lets Younger Teens Become Organ Donors
ALBANY, N.Y. – New York has joined 47 others states that allow teenagers to save lives by donating their organs after they die. Previously the minimum age for making such anatomical gifts was 18; now 16- and 17-year-olds can sign up for the New York State Donate Life Registry when they apply for their learner’s permit. Parents and legal guardians still have the final say, however, under the new donor law, signed Thursday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The measure contains safeguards that allow them to rescind the decision if the minor dies before age 18. Thousands of New Yorkers are still "wa…
