TZ Bridge: Last Eastbound Girders Installed, Westbound Girders Coming
The final structural steel girder assembly for the new Tappan Zee Bridge – for this phase of construction -- was installed this past week, according to the state Thruway Authority. The massive "I Lift NY" super crane placed the girder assembly on the eastbound part of the span. The super crane will install the final handful of girder assemblies on the westbound span during the coming weeks. North Castle Police Called To Violent Episode At North White Plains School
NORTH CASTLE, N.Y. -- North Castle police were called to the Rye Lake campus of Southern Westchester BOCES in North White Plains recently after a student there had a “violent episode,” they said. According to police, a 16-year-old boy was charged with menacing Friday, Sept. 9. Brian Howard, director of communications for Southern Westchester BOCES, refused Friday to comment on the incident and referred all questions to the police department. EAST FISHKILL, N.Y. – The 21st annual East Fishkill Community Day will take place Saturday, Sept. 17. Documentary Explores Fight To End Racial Segregation In Hillburn Schools
STONY POINT, N.Y. – The story of a bitter fight to end educational inequity in a small Rockland community is not well known, but local filmmaker Joe Allen is hoping to change that. The Stony Point resident has been working on a film documenting a desegregation fight that brought a young lawyer and future Supreme Court justice to Hillburn, a village in the town of Ramapo, in 1943.
