Indian Point Operators Respond To Pipeline Foes' Safety Stands
BUCHANAN, N.Y. -- Calling evacuation and other emergency plans inadequate, a group of health and safety experts Tuesday demanded that Spectra Energy abort its Algonquin Incremental Market (AIM) gas pipeline project. Representatives of Physicians for Social Responsibility (PSR) led a tour of the siting of the 42-inch pipeline, which, they said was “only 105 feet from vital structures at the aging Indian Point nuclear power plant.” Jerry Nappi, a spokesman for Entergy, Tuesday called the group’s assertions “absolutely false” and “overheated rhetoric.” Dr. Irwin Redlener, director of the Nat…

Bust Out Your Best Costume For Tarrytown's Annual Halloween Parade
TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- Tarrytown, which takes its place in local folklore very seriously, will host a Halloween parade on Oct. 29 led by none other than the “Headless Horseman” himself. The pumpkin-chucking phantasm was brought to life by Washington Irving in “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” a tale set in the late 1700s in a spooky and secluded glen near the Dutch settlement. For the past 15 years, Tarrytown’s folks have donned their most terrifying garb and paraded through its streets. What started with two floats and one marching band has morphed into an event expected to draw at least 10,000 …

The grand opening of the Hollow Brook Trail is set for 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20. The trail traverses about 20 of the 70 acres deeded to the town by the Hollow Brook Golf Club off Oregon Road, according to the town’s recreation and conservation director, John Palmiotto.
