Things Get Spooky In Suffern At Annual Halloween Parade SUFFERN, N.Y. -- Ghoulies, ghosties, long-leggedy beasties, and other things that go bump in the night will be showing off their frightening finery at Suffern’s upcoming Halloween parade. The macabre march starts at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30 in municipal parking lot A at the corner of Orange and Lafayette Avenues in the village. The parade proceeds along Lafayette and ends up at the Virginia Menschner Gazebo at the corner of Lafayette and Washington Avenues. All are welcome to join the parade. Poughkeepsie Gets $1M In Fire Apparatus Funding From State POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The city of Poughkeepsie will be getting a $1 million grant to replace a 20-year-old firetruck and purchase other equipment, Mayor Rob Rolison announced recently. The grant was organized by state Assemblyman Frank Skartados, D-Milton. First on the to-do list is replacing Engine 2, located at the Public Safety Building at 505 Main St. According to Fire Chief Mark Johnson, the truck is the department’s “FAST engine” (FAST stands for Firefighter Assist Search Team). In 2015, Engine 2 responded to 1,988 calls and has already gone on 1,594 calls this year, Johnson said. …

Tarrytown Firefighters Rescue Cat, Seek Owners TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Tarrytown firefighters have rescued a cat, but this time they didn’t have to climb a tree or rush into a burning building – the kitty came to them. The gray-and-white feline turned up at the Riverside Engine Co. No. 4, Engine 80, at 110 Franklin St. Its picture was posted on the Lost Pets of Westchester County website and the Tarrytown Fire Department’s Facebook page.
